Prayers during the current emergency

God of all hope we call on you today.

We pray for those who are living in fear:

Fear of illness, fear for loved ones, fear of other’s reactions to them.

May your Spirit give us a sense of calmness and peace.

We pray for your church in this time of uncertainty.

For those people who are worried about attending worship.

For those needing to make decisions in order to care for other

For those who will feel more isolated by not being able to attend.

Grant us your wisdom.

Holy God, we remember that you have promised that

Nothing will separate us from your love – demonstrated to us in Jesus Christ.

Help us turn our eyes, hearts and minds to you.

 Amen

Loving God, we pray for those already affected by the coronavirus

And all those who will become so in the coming weeks

We pray for those directly affected

Those who are ill in hospital or at home

Those who are self-isolating

Those who have already lost a loved one.

Father, bless them with your grace, fill them with your Spirit

We pray for the doctors and nurses

Who may need to work long hours

In difficult conditions

And putting their own health at risk

We give thanks for all our public services

Which will play a key part in tackling this disease

Including the ambulance, police and fire services

Father, bless them with your grace, fill them with your Spirit

We pray for those most vulnerable

Especially the elderly who may have to stay indoors

Becoming frightened by the threat of the virus

And lonely because of the need to keep away from other people

For care workers helping them with everyday life

And friends and family making sure they have company

Father, bless them with your grace, fill them with your Spirit

We pray for children who will be affected

Those who catch the virus

And those with a family member with the virus

We pray for those worried about important exams this summer

For schools trying to keep them safe

For teachers dealing with their anxiety

And when schools have to close we pray they may be safe

At home or with friends

Father, bless them with your grace, fill them with your Spirit

We pray for all those worried about their job

Or the survival of the company they work for

We remember especially those on low pay

Who may be anxious about how to pay the bills.

Father, bless them with your grace, fill them with your Spirit

We pray for our neighbours
May we be sensitive to their needs
Quick to help, slow to criticise
Always willing to reflect your gracious love
and be your helping hands
Father, bless them with your grace, fill them with your Spirit

Loving God, you are most powerful, most loving, most caring
As the Coronavirus outbreak develops over the next few weeks
Give us the strength to live our lives as you want us to
The courage to put others first, especially those in most need
And the assurance of your love for us all
In Jesus’ name.

Amen
